NL Educators Get Opportunity to go to NYC Maker Faire
Brilliant Labs NL is happy to announce we are partnering with our teacher association’s Technology Education Special Interest Council to fund 4 teachers from across NL to go to Maker Faire, NYC, "The Greatest Professional Learning On Earth" this September.
The Newfoundland & Labrador Teachers' Association (NLTA) will be sharing this news with it's members starting May 27th as the application process application opens Friday, May 31st and closes Friday, June 14th, 2019. This opportunity is open to all teachers who are members of the NLTA.

PL Funding Opportunity: Funding for The World Maker Faire with TESIC & Brilliant Labs
When: September 20th - 23rd
Thursday, Sept 19: Fly out late afternoon/evening
Friday, Sept 20: Education Forum
Saturday & Sunday, Sept 21 & 22: Maker Faire
Monday, Sept 23: Travel day
Where: New York City (Queens) NY Hall of Science
This fund will allow for four applicants, 1 from each region (eastern, central, western, and Labrador) as defined by NLESD, to avail of funding to attend The World Maker Faire in New York City focused on Maker Education. Successful applicants will travel as a part of the Brilliant Labs team (including attendees from NL, NB, NS and PEI).
By requesting and receiving funding you are agreeing to share your experience through future professional learning events, social media, blog posts, etc. It is important to note that leave for this conference must be approved by the school principal before expressing interest. Successful applicants may require their school to provide sub time for Thursday depending on departure time. Two sub days for Friday and Monday will be provided through funding.
Teacher has shown interest and has experience with Maker Education.
Preference will be given to teachers who have been involved with TESIC and/or Brilliant Labs in the past.
TESIC and Brilliant Labs collectively will take care of booking travel and accommodations, 2 sub days (Friday 20th & Monday 23rd) per teacher, and the Maker Faire registration for successful applicants. Successful applicants will be responsible for meals and spending money. Receipts will not be collected for reimbursement. Hotel rooms will be shared between 2 members of the same-sex of the travelling team. If there are uneven numbers, successful applicants may be assigned a room with an attendee from another Atlantic province. You will be contacted over the summer to provide the necessary information needed for booking purposes.
The application process will open on Friday, May 31st and close strictly on Friday, June 14th at 4:00pm. If multiple persons are applying from the same region, priority will be given to persons who have actively participated in TESIC and/or Brilliant Labs initiatives in the past and who can demonstrate they are Maker Education Leaders in their school/area.
Applications will be reviewed by a selection committee composed of experienced educators at all levels. Decisions will be communicated to successful applicants by Friday, June 21st.
