The Brilliant Labs Aerospace Program, will support teachers and students who are passionate about aerospace and want to discover. Our program will consist of exciting real-world aerospace projects, several Challenges a year, Rocket Day, and exciting partnerships with organizations and companies from the aerospace sector of Atlantic Canada!

Sally Ride EarthKam is NASA program that invites students and teachers from around the world to explore Earth from the perspective of the International Space Station (ISS). During three to five missions each year, students can submit requests to have a digital camera aboard the ISS capture images of almost any place on Earth. 

We encourage students to learn to use it as a tool for other projects...like incorporating images of an area over time to study climate changes, or simply to learn about another country, culture...the possibilities are endless.

Curriculum links: geography, photography interest, mapping, learning about orbits, longitude and latitude, great for introduction to other space related learning opportunities etc.)

Countries all over the world are preparing to send humans far into space, beyond the International Space Station (ISS). The Moon, nearly 400,000 kilometres away, will soon be orbited by a new space station: the Lunar Gateway. The station will be made up of different modules for scientific research and human habitation, and four astronauts will be able to live and work there for up to three months at a time. During their mission, they will occasionally venture onto the surface of the Moon to carry out scientific experiments and test new technologies.

Much like the ISS, the Lunar Gateway will require a cutting‑edge water recovery system to continuously provide the astronauts with drinking water during their time on board. The system will have to be completely autonomous so that it can operate even when no astronauts are present.

You are part of a team of four people: an engineer, a scientist, an architect and an astronaut. You've been hired to develop a water recovery system for the upcoming Lunar Gateway. You need to think of the materials you'll use to build a system to recycle, reuse or filter water as efficiently as possible.

The ISS is a high-tech platform to help us understand how we as humans can live in space, how are bodies react, eat, sleep in space a wide variety of other experiments.  This project allows students to build and code a reaction test game where 2-person teams can then test their reaction time to a blinking light, which will then measure in milliseconds how long it took them to tap the buzzer on the project they have built.  The project uses block based coding so it’s a great way to introduce coding to students!

Required Material:

Microbits (with USB cord) and chromebooks / laptop for coding

No software required (open source www.Makecode.com online coding software nothing to install!)

Tin Foil

Cardboard

Other materials to add flare (makers, paint, foam cardboard, safety scissors, etc.)

Canada is going to the Moon! Our country is part of the NASA-led Lunar Gateway program, and the Junior Astronauts campaign will allow Canadian youth to understand how they can play a role in this important endeavour, and get excited about space and science.

Young Canadians can test their skills and knowledge through the Canadian Space Agency's Junior Astronauts campaign with online activities in:

  • science and technology;

  • fitness and nutrition; and

  • teamwork and communications.

Selected kids in grades 6 to 9 from across Canada will have the opportunity to come to the Canadian Space Agency in Saint-Hubert, Quebec for a week of training by astronauts, scientists and engineers.

Install NASA’s “Station Spacewalk game (windows or Apple) where students can conduct a virtual space walk like an astronaut, conduct experiments, conduct “missions” like repairing the station, fixing the solar array.
